The past decades have seen how eyewear evolved to combine style, comfort, and functionality. Eyewear brands and manufacturers have experimented with all sorts of fashion design mixes and we are yet to see what other concepts are out there for us to try and wear. But where this industry is headed to is one that will amaze us all. No longer will eyewear focus on just aesthetics. In the next few years, we will instead be experiencing more of TECHNOLOGY in our eyeglasses, sunglasses, and even contact lenses. Enter the age of WEARABLE TECH.
Product designers and major tech companies are already in the race of coming up with futuristic eyewear products that will take the world by storm. And if you are going to ask us, there are already heaps of concepts that are being developed out there. These concepts are totally MIND-BLOWING and AMBITIOUS. It is just a matter of time before one is released in the market. Take a peek at the FUTURE OF EYEWEAR... Here are some of the most innovative eyewear ideas to watch out for.
1. Automtically Adjusting Eyewear
This a pair of eyeglasses that analyses what the wearer is looking at and then adjusts itself so that you can see your target as if having perfect 20/20 vision. It is like having multiple prescription settings rolled into one, auto-adjusting, and is always after to enhance your vision.

2. Smart Eyewear
Tech companies are already looking at eyewear to be extensions of the smart devices that we have or even an entirely separate unit on its own. Imagine having your smartphones, desktop, tablets, or smartwatch plugged into your SMART EYEGLASSES! Receive notifications of your text messages, social media updates, and emails right on your eyeglasses. Launch a Skype video call without having to carry a hand-held device or opening your laptop because your smart eyewear will readily let you do so. Wait until you find out more about Microsoft’s Hololens or Google’s Glass and you’ll know exactly what possibilities are there in having a computer-like eyewear device.

3. Virtual Reality Device
Ever heard of the Oculus Rift? Oculus Rift is a virtual reality (VR) device that immerses you in a virtual reality environment. It is not just an eyewear but is a complete system. It includes Pentile OLED display, 1080×1200 resolution per eye, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and 110° field of view. It also has integrated headphones that provide a 3D audio effect and rotational and positional tracking...

The Oculus Rift is not alone in this arena as other manufacturers are already catching up on this tech. There are other VR headsets available on the market today and their uses go far beyond gaming. They are seen to be used for interactive learning, entertainment, crime investigation, and even military training.
4. Medical Tool Eyewear
What if X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI machines are replaced by medical eyewear devices? These machines are usually installed in a laboratory and in places where they are not available, patients are usually at risk of being misdiagnosed. It will be very helpful to be able to carry a pocket version of these machines and how convenient would it be for a healthcare specialist if they can be worn. Hopefully, these medical eyewear devices are on their way already so as to make scanning more accessible to everyone.
5. Augmented Reality Device
More into the immersive technology area, we have what we call augmented reality (AR) devices. Unlike VR, you will still be able to see the environment around you. What you see is not 100% digital. There are several uses of AR according to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook Founder and CEO. Displaying information depending on what the camera sees, adding digital objects, and enhancing real objects. There are several apps that use AR and we can already experience this technology by just installing these apps on to our phones. Imagine experiencing the same this time through your eyeglasses.
6. Contact Lenses for Diabetes Management
Google has patented the concept of digital contact lenses that measure blood glucose level through tears. No need for glucometers that require pricking. You can monitor your diabetes at real time as sensors embedded on the lenses that are directly in contact with your tears 24/7. These sensors are then connected to a wireless device where the report is sent. You can learn more about this HERE.
7. Video Camera Contact Lenses
What if your contact lenses are capable of recording things according to your perspective and then uploading them all to the cloud? This could be the answer to memory loss as you will have access to things that have already happened in the past. All you need to do is to play the videos again.
The possibilities for futuristic eyewear is limitless and it is just exciting to find out how they will change our lives.
